Cardinal Guzman’s Changing Seasons: July 2016

Prompts and Challenges

July at Calico Basin

The above pano (3 shots stitched together) was taken July 24, 2016 at approximately 9:30 in the morning when the temperature was already 90 degrees in Calico Basin, Nevada. That’s a veritable cold spell here. A wildfire in Santa Clarita California, about 270 miles south, rendered the mountains almost invisible. There are actually three layers of mountains. The first are clearly visible, the second can barely be seen towards the center and to the right. The third is totally obliterated by smoke. I have come to Calico Basin each month as part of Cardinal Guzman’s Changing Seasons challenge. And since the seasons barely change here in Nevada I’ve tried to focus on different aspects of the basin.

What’s this “Changing Seasons” blogging challenge?

«The Changing Seasons 2016» is a blogging challenge with two versions: the original (V1) which is purely photographic and the new version (V2) where you can allow yourself to be more artistic and post a painting, a recipe, a digital manipulation, or simply just one photo that you think represents the month. Anyone with a blog can join this challenge and it’ll run throughout 2016. It doesn’t matter if you couldn’t join the first month(s), late-comers are welcomed. These are the rules, but they’re not written in stone – you can always improvise, mix & match to suit your own liking:

These are the rules for Version 1 (The Changing Seasons V1):

  • Tag your posts with #MonthlyPhotoChallenge and #TheChangingSeasons
  • Each month, post 5-20 photos in a gallery.
  • Don’t use photos from your archive. Only new shots.

These are the rules for Version 2 (The Changing Seasons V2):

  • Tag your posts with #MonthlyPhotoChallenge and #TheChangingSeasons
  • Each month, post one photo (recipe, painting, drawing, whatever) that represents your interpretation of the month.
  • Don’t use archive stuff. Only new material!

  1. Sure looks like the Sonoran Desert. I love it. The textures, the tones, and the old trailer. Great stuff! Also, like the slide show instead of the usual mosaic. I may use it myself next month.

  2. I like going back through the slideshow each month to compare to the latest photo. The impact of that fire on the sky and colours of the landscape is really striking.

If you hadn’t mentioned the photo was stitched together, I would never have guessed. Wow! Well done.

  3. The wildfire is scary! These are great images of the basin, Emilio. When we were traveling in Banff last summer, we could smell and see the smokes from Calgary.
