“When I was a kid, Halloween was strictly a starchy-vegetable-only holiday, with pumpkins and Indian corn on the front stoop; there was nothing electric, nothing inflatable, nothing with latex membranes or strobes.” ~~ Susan Orlean

  1. Halloween was uneventful when I was a kid. I never put on costumes and trick or treated once or twice in my lifetime — back ten we’d end up walking 10 miles to go the a few houses that were not expecting trick or treaters anyway. There are more houses and more kids now days, but we never get trick or treaters on Halloween. I think our property is too scary at night — we deal with ghosts pretty much daily, and the monsters growl and screech as they tramp trough the bamboo and bushes when we sit out on the deck at night.

      1. BTW You should check out my blog today. I found some extreme selfies from when I was trying to start a trend back in 2011. Maybe I should have issued a photo challenge.

  2. Halloween has never been my thing. Last night the kids carved pumpkins and that’s the extent of our decorations. There aren’t kids in our neighborhood, except for mine, so we’ll go to several houses that have asked if they are coming and have prepared for them. There’s a fair amount of visiting so it’ll take a couple hours.

    1. Your halloween sounds nice and leisurely but I wonder if the kids will enjoy it as much as going from door to door. We never get any kids in our neighborhood. I think it’s because we live next door to a real live witch!

  4. …….. I had 2 dogs stop by my house posing as trick or treat-ers ….is this a new trend???!! Sadly enough, I had nothing to give them. Halloween, in my opinion– is WAY too overblown. But I LOVE this photo– incredibly creepy!!

    1. Did you call me creepy? Halloween was a nice enough event when I was growing up but the adults- mostly driven by so called celebrities- have destroyed it. Just like they have so many other kid’s holidays. Can we say Christmas?
