One Four Challenge September Week 4

Gallery, Prompts and Challenges
Week 4

Week 4

I think I just had an epiphany working on this image. Four weeks with four variations is one week too many for my peculiar form of ADD. It just seems like everything I tried this week looked like everything else I’ve posted or tried in the past. Playing around with Topaz Lens Effects, I found this preset. So it may sound like I took the easy way out this week. On the contrary, going through all the presets in Topaz took me most of the morning until I found this. And I do like it. I just figured you should know that sometimes I take what I think is going to be the easy way out and it ends up much more time consuming.

And here, for your viewing pleasure, is a slide show of all 4 weeks.

Collaboration

Wow! Just wow! I absolutely love this processing of my image. And lest ye think I have totally flipped and am enamored of my own Lightroom skills, think again. Robyn Gosby of Captivate Me did the deed. It was a joint decision (no, we weren’t smoking) that we’ve been discussing since July’s One Four Challenge where she dumped her ducks into my lake! Then I melted the snow on her jalopy! (Well, actually, I only warmed up the tone a bit.) Anyway, we are thinking of doing this on a regular basis depending on the feedback. So please, feed back. Let us know what you think. If the feed back is positive the next image we process will be hers.

So, as I said, Robyn did the processing on the above image of mine. Then I made some minor adjustments. Very minor. In that sense, it definitely is a joint effort. A collaboration, if you will. Below I have posted my rendition of the same image. Quite a bit different. I told her it was a hot late afternoon when I took the shot and that’s really all she had to go on when she processed it. I went more for the nostalgia aspect, rather than the heat or time of day like she did. I’ve got to admit I like her’s better than mine. But this is not going to be a popularity contest. I don’t care whether you like her version or mine better. I’ve already decided I’m stealing her’s and putting my name on it!

I’m really not sure how Cee does it. She has a challenge for almost every day of the week. She has Odd Ball on Sunday, Share Your World on Monday, Fun Foto on Tuesday, Compose Yourself Wednesday, Black and White Thursday, and I’m not really sure which day Which Way.

I think she sleeps in on Saturday!

Summer’s Gone

Prompts and Challenges

This year, the last day of summer is officially on Sept. 22. The fall equinox arrives Sept. 23 and so does the onset of shorter days in the Northern Hemisphere. (International Business Times, September 6, 2015)

Nipton--7

Summer’s gone, day’s spent with the grass and sun,
I dont mind, to pretend i do seems really dumb.
I rise as the morning comes, crawling through the blinds,
I shouldn’t be up at this time, but i cant sleep with you there by my side.

Wake up its a beautiful morning,
Feel the sun shining for your eyes.
Wake up its so beautiful,
For what could be the very last time.

One Four Challenge September Week 3

Gallery, Prompts and Challenges

This week I went a bit out of the ordinary. Playing around with Topaz Adjust 5, I found a preset called Color Negative. Then I exported back into Lightroom and adjusted more to my taste.

OK, so I think it was my last post on Monochromia where I mentioned my car trouble. Turns out after over 211,000 miles, the engine finally died. Gave up the ghost. I am so bummed. I was hoping to make it to 300,000 miles. What a coup that would have been. But it was not meant to be. Call it “pilot error”. Call it “Emilio’s Stupidity”. But I really did intend to change the oil. Heck you don’t get to over 211,000 miles by ignoring the basics of car maintenance. But my mechanic said that, based on the window sticker he put there, I went over 12,000 miles since my last oil change. Quite an expensive lesson.

Anybody got a used car they’d like to sell?

Have you ever had a ride in a light blue car?
Have you ever stopped to think who’s the slave and who’s the master?
Have you ever had trouble with your automobile?
Have you ever had to push push push push?

One Four Challenge September Week 2

Gallery, Prompts and Challenges

OK, folks! This was a semi “spont” exploration. We decided to head south on the I-15 (heading towards California) and take every exit to see what we would find. Since the freeway traverses mostly desert for it’s first 200 or so miles, we had a general idea what we would find: nothing, lots of dirt, lots of cacti, and lots of old, deserted buildings and machinery. We were not disappointed. But rather than bore you with any of that stuff, I plan on boring you with the freeway itself. Actually, under the freeway. I loved this spot we found. The noise of the cars and trucks passing over head was earth shaking and seemed somehow dangerous. So here we are: Under the freeway!

Week 1

Since I was on vacation last weekend (actually at a wedding in Paso Robles CA) I am late in posting Week 1. As above, it is the closest to straight out of the camera that you will see this month. It was adjusted for highlights, shadows, blacks and whites, then an overexposed area was cloned out lower left and a streak of light was added coming in from upper left. Below, for week 2, a preset was added called Dirty Dream. It added a bit of misty, out of focus haze, especially across the lower portion of the image that I liked. There is also another layer that adds depth to the effect.
